What is Human Design?
Human Design is a system of self-knowledge that combines the ancient wisdom of the I Ching, the Kabbalah, the Hindu-Brahmin chakra system, and Western astrology with modern science — quantum physics, biochemistry, and genetics. It was created by Ra Uru Hu (Robert Alan Krakower) in 1987 after a mystical experience that lasted eight days.
Unlike astrology, which uses only your time and place of birth, Human Design uses two key moments: the moment of your birth and exactly 88 days before birth (called the Design calculation). These two calculations together form your Bodygraph — a visual map of your energetic mechanics.
The Bodygraph — Your Energy Map
The Bodygraph is the central diagram in Human Design. It contains nine energy centers (similar to chakras), 36 channels, and 64 gates (corresponding to the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching). Centers can be defined (colored) or undefined (white). Defined centers represent consistent energies within you, while undefined centers show where you are open to influences from the environment.
The Five Energy Types
Manifestor
Manifestors are the only type designed to initiate. They have a closed and repelling aura that allows them to move through the world independently. Their key challenge is learning to inform the people around them before they act — not to ask permission, but to reduce the resistance they naturally create. When living correctly, Manifestors experience deep peace.
Generator
Generators are the workforce of humanity with enormous life-force energy that regenerates each day through the Sacral center. They are designed to wait for something from the external world to respond to — a gut feeling that says "uh-huh" (yes) or "uh-uh" (no). When they follow their sacral response and invest energy in what truly fulfills them, they experience deep satisfaction.
Manifesting Generator
Manifesting Generators are a hybrid type combining Generator energy with the Manifestor's ability to initiate. They have a defined Sacral center and a motor-to-throat channel. They are natural multi-taskers who often work on multiple things simultaneously. Their process is non-linear — they skip steps, go back, change direction. This is their correct mechanics, not a flaw.
Projector
Projectors do not have consistent access energy for work — their gift lies in guiding and directing the energy of others. They have a focused and penetrating aura that allows them to see deeply into other people. They are designed to wait for formal invitations for big life decisions (career, relationships, relocation). When recognized and invited, they can be extraordinarily effective guides and advisors.
Reflector
Reflectors are the rarest type in Human Design — all their centers are undefined (white). They are mirrors of the community, completely open to the energies of their environment. Their unique design requires a full lunar cycle of 28 days before making major decisions, because their experience changes as the Moon transits through their chart. The health of the community they live in directly affects their well-being.
Inner Authority
Authority is your personal mechanism for making correct decisions. Unlike the mind, which is designed for thinking but not for deciding, authority operates through the body. There are seven types of authority:
- Emotional (Solar Plexus) — the most common authority. Decisions require time — never decide at an emotional high or low. Wait for the wave to settle.
- Sacral — a gut response, an "uh-huh" or "uh-uh" sound. Spontaneous and immediately available, but only for pure Generators.
- Splenic Authority — instant intuition, a quiet inner voice that speaks only once. Recognize it immediately or you miss it.
- Ego / Heart — decisions based on willpower and commitment. The question is: "Do I really want this?"
- Self-Projected — talk about the decision out loud and listen to yourself. Truth reveals itself through your voice.
- Mental / Environmental — for Projectors with no inner authority. Rely on trusted sounding boards who can reflect back to you.
- Lunar — only for Reflectors. Wait a full lunar cycle of 28 days before any major decision.
Profile — Your Life Role
The Profile consists of two numbers (e.g., 3/5 or 6/2) and describes your life role — how you learn and how others perceive you. There are twelve profiles, from 1/3 (Investigator/Martyr) to 6/2 (Role Model/Hermit). Your profile reveals the theme of your life experiences and the way you exchange energy with the world.

The Bodygraph contains nine centers, each with a specific function. Defined (colored) centers operate consistently, while undefined (white) centers receive and amplify energies from the environment:
- Head (Crown) — inspiration, mental pressure, questions
- Ajna — conceptualization, mental processing, opinions
- Throat — communication, manifestation, action
- G Center (Self) — identity, direction, love
- Heart / Will (Ego) — willpower, material world, value
- Solar Plexus — emotions, passion, desire, fear
- Sacral Center — life force, sexuality, work, fertility
- Spleen — intuition, health, fears, survival
- Root — adrenaline pressure, stress, drive
