What is AstroCartography?

AstroCartography (also known as locational astrology or astro-mapping) is a branch of astrology developed by Jim Lewis in 1978. It maps your natal chart onto the geography of the Earth, showing lines on a world map where planets were at the angles of your chart (Ascendant, Descendant, IC, and MC) at the moment of your birth.

Each planetary line activates the energy of that planet in that geographic area. When you physically relocate near one of these lines or visit them, you will feel an intensified influence of that planet in your daily life. This helps you find the best places for career, love, creativity, health, or spiritual growth.

The Four Angular Points

Each planet in your chart creates four lines on the map, one for each angular point:

  • Ascendant (ASC) line — where the planet rises on the horizon. Affects your personality, physical appearance, and how others perceive you. These are places where you will feel like a "new version of yourself."
  • Descendant (DSC) line — where the planet sets. Affects partnerships, relationships, and collaborations. These are places where you will attract a certain type of partner or collaborator.
  • IC (Imum Coeli) line — the bottom of the sky, the deepest point. Affects home, family, roots, and inner peace. These are places that will feel like "home."
  • MC (Medium Coeli) line — the top of the sky, the highest point. Affects career, public reputation, and life calling. These are places where you will achieve professional success.

What Each Planet Line Means

Sun

Places of vitality, confidence, and self-expression. You feel most alive and visible here. Great for leadership roles and creative pursuits. You may attract attention and recognition effortlessly.

Moon

Places of emotional depth, nurturing, and belonging. You may feel an instant emotional connection to these locations. Ideal for raising a family or establishing deep roots. Your intuition is heightened here.

Mercury

Places of communication, learning, and intellectual stimulation. Excellent for studies, writing, teaching, or starting a business that involves networking. Your mind is sharper and more agile here.

Venus

Places of love, beauty, pleasure, and financial abundance. You attract romantic partners more easily here. Art, design, and luxury feel natural. These are some of the most pleasant lines to live on.

Mars

Places of energy, drive, ambition, and competition. You feel physically energized and motivated here. Great for athletic pursuits or competitive careers. Caution: can also bring conflicts and accidents.

Jupiter

Places of expansion, luck, abundance, and growth. These are traditionally the most fortunate lines. Opportunities seem to appear from nowhere. Higher education, travel, and spiritual growth are favored here.

Saturn

Places of discipline, responsibility, and long-term building. Life may feel harder here, but the rewards are lasting. Structure, career advancement through hard work, and maturity define these locations.

Pluto

Places of profound transformation and power. Living here triggers deep psychological change — you will not be the same person after. Can bring intense experiences, power dynamics, and complete reinvention.

How to Use AstroCartography

AstroCartography is not just for relocations — it is used for planning travel, business expansions, vacations, and even for understanding why you felt a certain way in places you visited in the past. Here are some practical tips:

  • For career — look for Sun MC, Jupiter MC, or Saturn MC lines. These locations support professional recognition and advancement.
  • For love — look for Venus DSC or Venus IC lines. These places foster romantic encounters and emotional connections.
  • For creativity — look for Venus ASC or Neptune ASC lines. Here your artistic vision flourishes.
  • For spiritual growth — look for Jupiter IC or Neptune IC lines. These places awaken deep inner wisdom.
  • Places to be cautious about — be careful with Saturn, Mars, or Pluto lines, especially ASC and MC. These lines can bring challenges, conflicts, and intense transformations.

Parans — Line Crossings

Especially powerful points on your astrocartography map are places where two planetary lines cross. These points are called "parans" and combine the energies of both planets. For example, a Venus/Jupiter crossing marks a place of exceptional luck in love and material well-being. The radius of influence is typically around 300-500 kilometers from the line itself.
