What the Age of Pisces Means

The Age of Pisces, which we are currently concluding, was defined by the rise of Christianity and institutional religion, the ideals of compassion and self-sacrifice, and the tension between faith and skepticism. Jesus Christ, the central figure of this age, was symbolized by the fish (Ichthys), his disciples were fishermen, he multiplied loaves and fishes, and early Christians identified themselves with the fish symbol. Pisces represents sacrifice, martyrdom, and transcendence of the material world. The age produced magnificent cathedrals, monasteries, and spiritual art, all attempts to bridge the earthly and divine. Simultaneously, Pisces' shadow manifested as religious persecution, the Inquisition, and escapism through addiction. The duality of Pisces (two fish swimming in opposite directions) reflected the age's fundamental tension: spirit versus matter, faith versus science, sacrifice versus victimhood. Hospitals, prisons, and monasteries, all Piscean institutions of isolation and care, proliferated. The final centuries brought dissolution of old structures, globalization through ocean navigation, and increasing collective consciousness through media and technology.
