What Are the Lunar Nodes?

The lunar nodes are not physical celestial bodies but mathematical points where the Moon's orbital path crosses the ecliptic (the Sun's apparent path around Earth). The North Node (also called Rahu or the Dragon's Head) represents your soul's direction of growth — the qualities, experiences, and life areas you are meant to develop in this lifetime. The South Node (Ketu or the Dragon's Tail) represents your karmic past — gifts and patterns carried from previous incarnations that feel comfortable but can limit growth if relied upon exclusively.

The nodes always occupy opposite signs, forming an axis of evolutionary tension. Your South Node shows where you have already mastered lessons; your North Node shows where you must venture into unfamiliar territory. Life repeatedly presents situations that push you toward your North Node, often through discomfort, challenge, and the failure of South Node strategies.
