What is Retrograde?

When a planet appears to move backward in the sky from Earth's perspective, we call it retrograde. This optical illusion occurs due to differences in orbital speed between Earth and the other planet. While the planet isn't actually reversing course, astrologers have observed that retrograde periods correspond with themes of review, revision, and reflection in the areas ruled by that planet.

Mercury Retrograde

The most well-known retrograde, Mercury retrograde occurs three to four times per year for approximately three weeks. Mercury governs communication, technology, travel, and contracts. During its retrograde, you may notice miscommunications, tech glitches, travel delays, and a tendency for past contacts to resurface.

How to Navigate Retrogrades

Rather than fearing retrograde periods, use them as opportunities for reflection and revision. Review old plans, reconnect with past contacts, and refine existing projects rather than launching entirely new ventures. Patience and flexibility are your best allies during any retrograde transit.
